Who am I?
Hey, I’m Genaro Navarro-Rodriguez, a Mexican-American filmmaker and producer. I grew up helping my dad with his photo and video business in Seattle, mostly filming quinceañeras, weddings, and other events for the Latino community. That’s really where I first learned how to work behind the camera and tell stories.
In 2020, during COVID, I made my first short film called Last Breath, and I also worked on a music video for a local Spanish artist. From there, I went to college at Loyola Marymount University, where I studied Film and Television Production and minored in Screenwriting. While I was there, I produced a few short films like Birthday Girl and The Night of the Lunar Puffs. One of them, Breakfast, even made it into some film festivals.
Along the way, I interned at places like Ideanomics and Private Island Audio, working on editing and post-production. I also got to learn from a Netflix Post Production Supervisor, which got me interested in becoming a post-supervisor one day.
In 2023, I landed a post-production internship at Rooster Teeth (Warner Bros. Discovery) where I helped on real projects until mid-2024.
Right now, I’m getting my master’s in Entertainment and Leadership Management at LMU. My dream is to one day work at a big studio as a Post Production Supervisor and eventually become an Executive Producer. I’m currently working on a project called The Legend of the Jaguars, which mixes cartel crime stories, superhero vibes, and Mexican mythology.
When I’m not editing or filming, I’m usually writing, researching mythology, or coming up with new ideas for shows.
